Q: Why are your yurts better than others?
A:Our yurts are built right here in Hawaii, for Hawaii.
Q: Yurts often have vinyl walls that make it unbearably hot inside. What does BackYard Yurts use?
A: We don't use heavy vinyl coverings like most yurt companies for the whole yurt. Our walls are made with Sunbrella canvas which is much more breathable. Sunbrella is resistant to water, mold and mildew, it looks better than vinyl and is environmentally friendly due to its recycling program. We are however constantly looking into new way to promote stainability here in Hawaii, we are actually working on building a plastic fiber recycle to start making our own material from recycled plastic found on the beaches. Volcom and Quicksilver have similar technologies the use to make board shorts. We will let everyone know when we have the plastic recycler complete.
Q: I see some yurts being built with cheap aluminum rivets holding the lattice work together, do you use rivets?
A: Absolutely not. We use only stainless steel nuts/bolts for our lattice work and soon, we will be casting the steel nuts and bolts here in out foundry.
Q: How tall are your yurt walls?
A: You may choose any height, but we recommend 6' 8" to 7' 10".

Q: What's your most popular yurt?
A: Our 12' 2" yurt is the most popular. It can be put up anywhere and it doesn't exceed the square footage for needing a permit here in Oahu. The 16ft yurt is the most popular permitted yurt.
Q: Will I be able to choose my own color?
A: Yes. We have several choices that will fit any personality, environment, and setting. You have three pieces to choose colors for: roof, main wall and base wall.
Q: Are the yurts portable?
A: Yes. The smaller yurts can go up and down in about an hour, but the larger ones get heavy so you will need some help.
Q: Can I have my windows placed anywhere on the walls?
A: Yes. There are two large windows that we will include where you want them so you can enjoy your favorite views.
Q: What about installation?
A: Installation is FREE on Oahu. Anywhere else will cost a small fee. Please call us for a quote.
Q: Can the yurt be plumbed for electricity and water?
A: Yes. We encourage you to hire a professional to install electricity and water.
Q: Is the round deck included?
A: No, you will have to build your round deck. There is an extra charge if you would like us to build it for you.
